Woodland occurs on the heavier soils in the north of the Island. These large areas of plantation and mixed woodland are a dominant feature in the landscape. Some woodland such as Borthwood Copse has public access provision and you are allowed to spend time there for fun. But be careful as you explore because there may be activities such as tree clearance and coppicing in the wood. This woodland work is important for wildlife and to maintain the character of the area.
