Rocky Cliffs

The Island’s remarkable geology is easily visible where the sea has worn away coastal rocks. Often this leaves rocky cliffs exposed, and these spectacular features such as the famous Needles stacks are some of the most iconic in the country. As well as the high chalk cliffs there are many other rocky shores along the south and south-west coast of the Island, forming rocky bays and coves that once formed havens for smugglers.
