High Loop out West (featuring Tennyson Monument, Headon Warren, spectacular views)

 

Chris and Frankie are accomplished adventure walkers who have travelled the world bagging Everest Base Camp, the Inca Trail, New Zealand’s Tongariro Crossing, the Lycian Way, Camino de Santiago as well as, closer to home, The Coast to Coast, West Highland Way and all of Wainwrights 214 Lakeland tops. Join them for a series of short walks exploring some of their favourite places at home on the Island. Chris and Frankie are also directors of the New Carnival Company, who work across the Island on carnival and outdoor events, including a number of projects with IW AONB.

 

Please be aware this walk is 6 miles long, is not suitable for young children and aimed at people who like to ramble at a steady pace. Sturdy boots and appropriate clothing are necessary.

Why should kids have all the fun? Time to let the grown-ups have a go! A walk along Shanklin beach, towards Luccombe, to observe wildlife on the cliffs and in the rockpools at Horse Ledge. Easy beach access and flat walking, but there are groynes and areas of rocky shore to negotiate. Not aimed at under-8’s. No dogs please.

Breathtaking Bowcombe is a fairly energetic after work walk aimed at adults. We'll puff our way up the Tennyson trail from Carisbrooke, but it will be worth it for the stunning views across the Island. Coming down to the Blacksmiths arms we'll spend a few minutes looking at Glyn Robert's sculptured tale on a plaque outside the pub, then make our way down yet further to Reads Farm and Alvington Manor Farm before returning to Carisbrooke.
