Working GroupsAt various times working groups are set up to deal with specific topics or tasks that affect the AONB. The groups may be time limited depending upon the topic and are intended to provide groups which can discuss and deal with specific technical areas that are relevant to the AONB, engaging the appropriate expertise. Members of these work groups are usually selected from the AONB Partnership Steering Committee or Advisory Group. AONB Development Control & Planning Work Group (DCPWG)Planning applications and planning policy as set out by the Unitary Development Plan are our most effective formal means of ensuring the protection of the AONB and the purposes of the designation. The AONB Unit screens the weekly planning application list and a decision is made as to whether comment is necessary for proposals that are within the designation boundaries. Occasionally large scale and potentially precedent setting applications are submitted. These benefit from wider consideration by the AONB Partnership through this Work Group, which makes recommendations to be considered by the Steering Committee. Additionally this Work Group guides the development of design guidance and supplementary planning guidance by the AONB Unit, and ratifies AONB comment on requests for consultation on planning policy and design issues. Following the successful production and adoption by the Isle of Wight Council of the Isle of Wight AONB Management Plan 2004-2009 the Work Group was disbanded, but as legislation requires all AONB Management Plans to be reviewed within five years of their publication, it has recently been re-convened to discuss this Review. The AONB Partnership commenced the process in September 2007, at our Annual General Meeting and Open Forum. There have also been two Workshops, the first of which took place on 29 November 2007 entitled "Threats and Challenges" and the second on 24 January 2008 entitled "Policies and Policy Objectives.
