10 YEARS OF THE ISLE OF WIGHT WALKING FESTIVAL - A CELEBRATORY WEEKEND 24-27 OCTOBER 2008

Due to popular demand and the fantastic support of leaders, a walking weekend is being organised in October, as part of the tenth anniversary celebrations of the Walking Festival.  This is a wonderful opportunity to return to the Island, enjoy some of your favourite walks, and appreciate the spectacular autumn scenery of the AONB.  We will be leading two walks over this weekend as follows:-

Friday 24 October 2008 - Over Undercliff and Up Downs

Join Carrie McDowell, AONB Assistant in enjoying an old favourite first seen in the 2003 Festival, walking in the Island's AONB with spectacular views of our finest landscapes.  The walk will take in part of the coastal path, the pretty village of Niton, a steady climb up around Head Down and along St Catherines Down to the Hoy monument.  There will be plenty of opportunity to enjoy the beautiful views, take photographs, and learn some interesting historical facts about the landmarks we will see along the route.  Meet at 11.00 a.m. at Blackgang Viewpoint car park Grid Reference 491767 (approximately five miles and a duration of three hours).

Monday 27 October 2008 - Stepping Stones

Join Carrie McDowell, AONB Assistant on a walk in the Island's Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, looking at landscape character and the special features of the AONB.  As the name of the walk implies it will involve various "stones" commencing with Brighstone through to the Long Stone, Mottistone and Hulverstone.  Meet at 10.30 a.m. in Brighstone Village car park Grid Reference 428827 (approximately seven miles and a duration of four hours)

Please contact us to book your place on either of these two walks.

There are also a number of activities that take place within the AONB which are run by other organisations.  Some of these can be found on the links below:
